Installing Samba on RedHat 7.1

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

this is only tangentially related to the samba topic, but has anyone noticed
what a great product it has become in the past few years?

Samba has been here for something like 8 or 10 years, and it used to be a
network hog and slow, but now it's frankly, amazing!
It's a great example of free software at it's best. while I don't have an
array of machines using it now,
I recently saw how smoothly a bunch of windows and linux machines can
happily coexist.

not that it fixes your problems, but let's all lift our java-mugs in salute!

It's not called server in the rpm package name. It's just samba-2 ...
whatever. Here's my list ...

samba-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm@ samba-client-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm@
samba-common-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm@ samba-swat-2.2.1a-4.i386.rpm@

What happens when you do
