I was not talking about Speakup.

Right now the only way that the SuSE-BLinux people can think of allowing a
daemon (which by its very nature has no standard input) to get at keypresses
is to have a kernel patch such as key-sniff which is available on
leb.net/pub/blinux.

The reason why the main SuSE company would not dream of having key-sniff or
similar in their standard is that their distribution is used by
multinational corporations and loads of security-conscious people.  Now what
does a keyboard sniffer do?  It allows a user level program to see what is
being typed.  Fine, so let some hacker break into a system, install a
program that transmits all data that is being typed back to the hacker.  I
consider this to be a security hole.  This is an exageration, but maybe you
can understand why SuSE has some concerns about making a keyboard sniffer
part of their standard Linux kernel.
