Mmmmmm... You are right (and I am wrong!). IBM has worked really hard to make sure their laptops worked 100% under Linux. So it is true some winmodems work correctly under Linux. On the other hand, I don't like "winmodems" and internal modems at all. Winmodems take too much CPU resources for too little functionalities.
