ataraid is the only option when you have to dual-boot.

I wouldn't have put it that way. Linux software raid (md) is better than Linux IDE software raid (ataraid/pdcraid). ataraid/pdcraid has no offline/online checking so if a disk fails it won't handle it gracefully for one.
