it's actually simple to do that (it started out that way until the driver
got an officialy major)

You can always "re-root" an installed distro btw, just boot with the proper
"root=/dev/ataraid/d0pX single" and fix /etc/fstab manually.

Not optimal.... I realise that. Getting it right in distribution installers
is not trivial (well autoconfiguring LILO/Grub for this isn't)...
