Greetings.

I'm wondering if it is possible to install Linux (RH71 preferably) to a RAID 0 set from my on-board HPT370 controller. Mainboard is Abit TH7-RAID, currently with WinME on primary partition of the stripe set. New computer, just got around to installing Linux, realized that problems exist with the HPT370 RAID and standard installer CDs.

Any hope, or do I need to delete the raid set and start fresh? Or, is it easier to add a hard drive to standard IDE0 channel and install to that?

Many thanks. Hope this wasn't an oft-repeated question. Looked through archives and didn't see much.

Hi Doug,
I tried it for some time, but I could not install it. The problem is not the driver, you can copy a working kernel to the bootdisc and start the installation, but the ataraid-device /dev/ataraid/dXpY will not be recognized by the installation program. There is no posibility (as far as I know) to name the partition where you want to install linux. What you could do: install linux to a additional drive (2GB should be enough), compile a kernel with the ataraid driver and copy all data to the raid-array. Booting with grub is no problem. I did this procedure with a test array and I will do this with my working system, as soon as the driver recognize the partition table correctly.

greetings Helge.
