I'm having the same problem with two asterisk boxes connected via sangoma a104d card. 
Using latest asterisk from svn with integrated ss7 support.
Link just hangs in "PROVING" state.. after checking sources of libss7 i found out, that (unless i'm mistaken of course)
some timeout function should be called when scheduled requests timeouts, and i think it is never called so it may be
a timing problem.
