from ubuntuforums:

sudo mv /usr/bin/xfdesktop /usr/bin/xfdesktop-off
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/nautilus /usr/bin/xfdesktop

But, i don't know if symlinking is such a good idea. Moreover there'll
be no desktop icons.
