I can not confirm that either of Adam Russ' suggestions in the bug comments (which you cite) works for me. From a hint over on the eclipse.newcomer newsgroup by Eric Rizzo, I found that specifying a Java VM for Eclipse to use shows some effect: After altering the eclipse.ini file as described in http://wiki.eclipse.org/Eclipse.ini I now get past the splash screen. However, Eclipse crashes without any visible exceptions as soon as I try to select a "code assist" entry. I'm giving up on this. I don't need Firefox, and hence I'll just remove it for now and see if anything turns out. Sorry! Regards, Jürgen
