Yeah I think you're right, messing with Apple's Apache isn't a good idea. The mod_ssl in Apple's config appears to be signed.

I can't get on a Snow Leopard server or I would check it myself, but I would advise you not to do it.

I don't think that "Server Admin" has anything to do with how Apache is compiled, but keep this in mind:

"custom modules can get overwritten every time an OS update gets installed."
