Not so. A free version of Apple's streaming server is available from the Darwin project (http://developer.apple.com/opensource/server/streaming/index.html).

Also, if you happen to be running Windows server, the MS streaming server is an optional add-on at no additional cost.

There's something for Real too, but I don't recall off the top of my head.
