I dont think so, because when I use Apache 2.0.52 but keep all of my 

CGIs the same, this issue disappears.

It must be something with apache itself.

It might not be your code that is generating the STDERR - I once had a 

system call that generated a line on stderr even when it worked; 

fortunately the interface came with a "QUIET" option to suppress all 

output!

    These logs appear harmless because the clients seem "happy", but they
    are filling up my error log very quickly.

    It does not happen one every request, but just about. This happens
    with PHP 5.1.6, PHP 5.1.2, and with
    a custom CGI compiled from C++.

    Prior to 2.2.3 I ran Apache 2.0.52 which did NOT have this problem.

    My Setup:
    P4 3Ghz HT
    1 GB Ram
    Windows XP Pro
    Apache 2.2.3

    any ideas?
