First,
  You have to make sure you have a copy of apache that is compiled for ssl.  normal dist is not.  if you do, go to openssl.org and download their utility.  in their FAQ section, they tell you how to generate a key and cert for yourself.  you can follow the example conf file for ssl on how to config it.
