"appears"? Can you positively confirm that? Put a deliberate syntax error in one/both include files and check you get a syntax error. Re the OP: I wouldn't bet my life on the accuracy of the docs. The comment about configtest giving you a progress report on files read is certainly true of 1.3. However, since apache 2.0, there has been a trend to make apache less verbose and more unix-like (ie, silence = success). A quick grep of the source reveals 'Processing config' to be conspiciously absent. I have a sneaky suspicion that this doc might be out of date - I'll check further...
