RE: [users@httpd] htaccess

Ok AllowOveride All is set in the config file

I have attached the errorlog and the access log to this e-mail there is nothing in the error log that points to the file system denying access if I remove the .htaccess and .htpasswd files I still do not gain access to the directory where the .htaccess and .htpasswd files were, even after restarting apache, so now I am at a loss

I have also attached a copy of my .htaccess and .htpasswd files

I have also attached the /etc/httpd/httpd.conf file

This evening I changed all the permissins on all files in the web root directory to user:www group:www this made no difference, also changed the permissions on the htaccess and htpasswd files to 755 still no difference. Now I am running out of ideas.

Thanks again for the help

Also, you should do

AllowOveride All

to enable the .htaccess files to change the config.

You actually have two problems, not one.
First, you need to fix the Forbidden problem. This could be a file
permission problem, or it could be a configuration problem. You'll need
to look in the error log to be sure.
If it's a file permission problem, you'll need to make sure that the
directories in question are +ACs-x (searchable) and +ACs-r (readable) by the
Apache user.
If it's a "denied by server configuration" message in the error log,
you'll need to make sure that there is a directory block referring to
this directory, with an "allow" directive there.
Of course, presumably, if you're using .htaccess files, that infers that
you don't have access to the main server configuration file, so perhaps
these things are not in your power to do.

So, let's start with the error log. What does it say?
