Elizabeth,
from your earlier post you say that you have installed apache right? So open a command window and type in the location of the apache install for example:

> cd /usr/local/apache2/bin

then type:

> ./apachectl start

Now open up a browser window and type:

http://127.0.0.1

If you see an introduction page of sorts to apache then you know that apache is working fine
