I haven't read through all of the emails on this topic and pardon me if I am being redundant. You can avoid a DNS by using a 3rd party dynamic DNS service on your router. Most cable/DSL routers have this functionality, and a sample service is dyndns.org. Some if not all residential broadband providers will block http incoming requests. But if you have a private and known audience, selecting another port to host on other than 80 will work. I don't know if that is true about 443 also - I have to check that. For a residential network you should avoid the DMZ until you are confident with network security for your web server and your home network. I don't know if internet search engines can work in this configuration.
