[users@httpd] ldap auth module for 1.3

We are using ldap auth Apache 1.3.x with
http://www.muquit.com/muquit/software/mod_auth_ldap/mod_auth_ldap.html
In the process of changing our ldap server i discovered that the above 
module uses ldap version 2 but the new ldap server wants version 3.

Anyone knows if I can compile this module to use v3?
or
What do people out there use for simple ldap v3 auth with 1.3?
