I think you have already checked the permition rights of the directory
and files, so do you check the DirectoryIndex option? You should have
index.php there.

Besides check if the php files you used had the short tag <? instead of
<?php. If so, check in the /etc/php.ini file. You must have the that
option enabled: short_open_tag = On
