I had to follow this:

setting up ssl took me a good couple of hours, but this does help a lot.  If there was a precompiled version of apache with ssl I would have liked to have used that.

COrrect me if I'm wrong, but don't the Windows releases of Apache come
enabled with SSL? I come to this conclusion by seeing a few *_no-ssl*
files listed at http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/win32/ .
