Thanks for the responses. I am probably looking at caching in excess of 100Gb data. The two main reasons I have for caching the data are:
1) Performance (not always proxying back to a much slower web application) 2) Availability (Apache should be able to serve a very large proportion of the site, when web application is unavailable). I therefore want to get Apache to cache everything (that's not authenticated / personalised), swapping the majority of it out to swap disk, but keeping the popular URLs in memory.
