Ah no, you don't have to restart the system at all. Maybe I wasn't clear enough. The sequence above itself will make your sound system already usable. (and you don't have to probe_only=1 option.) Just use your sound apps after the sequence above after checking the mixer status. If it still doesn't work, run alsa-info and attach the outupt again. Also, show the kernel message, too.
