This appears twice, for > playback and capture, but only the playback one works. There is no "Mic Boost" that i can see in either section of alsamixer. There are only the "Docking/External/Internal Mic" controls. Which, in the CAPTURE section of alsamixer, do nothing. In the PLAYBACK section, the 'External Mic' control seems to adjust gain/volume.
