I have a AC'97 front panel with line out and mic. When the front panel works (with some models), I onlt get sound from the right speaker. The correct model for this card is 3stack and works even now when I'm back to stock ubuntu kernel + alsa 1.0.10. Why this didn't work with ubuntu 5.10 and alsa 1.0.11 is beyond me. Nonetheless, consider this bug solved (as a dupe to #2103) for my part. Gnat's device subsystem is different, though. One thing might still be confusing to newbies: by default, only the headphones slider was shown, which corresponds to the front panel output. Anything connected to the speaker output on the mobo is not affected by this but had to be made visible through the preferences menu (front) on gnome's mixer_applet2. Whether this is set in the driver or by Ubuntu software is unknown to me. Thanks a lot!
