A plane bound for LaGuardia Airport landed safely Tuesday after it was
struck mid-air by birds, officials said.

American Airlines Flight 1256 reported a bird strike several hundred
feet=A0in the air just before 11 a.m., said a spokeswoman for the
Federal Aviation Adminstration.

The Boeing 737, carrying 135 passengers and five crew members, landed
safely on Runway 22.

"I didn't feel any turbulence," said Ariana Serpico, 26, who was
traveling with her 2-year-old daughter. "Nothing was out of the
ordinary for me."

The plane, which departed from Miami about 8 a.m., reported a problem
with the nose gear and had to be towed to the gate.

American Airlines spokeswoman Andrea Huguely said the plane is out of
service and is being inspected by maintenance.

In January, a US Airway Airbus carrying 155 people suffered a rare
double bird strike in both engines and lost power.

Hero pilot Chesley Sullenberger safely landed the plane on the Hudson
River - earning cheers from around the globe.

Serpico, of Staten Island, immediately thought of the "Miracle on the
Hudson" and considered herself lucky.

"I got the chills," said Serpico. "I'm just feeling blessed, very lucky."
