This will be the first international airline service between the two markets. Nonstop service between Albuquerque and Chihuahua City will take place each Monday, Wednesday and Friday on Embraer ERJ 145 regional jets, which seat 50 passengers. Economic development and tourism officials are touting the new flights as excellent tools for promoting trade between New Mexico and Mexico, as well as tourism. The southern part of the state has seen continued growth tourists from Mexico over the past few years. Since AeroMexico is a Mexican carrier, it also has the added advantage of linking travelers to other cities in Mexico and bringing Mexican visitors from hubs such as Guadalajara and Mexico City to Albuquerque. Gov. Bill Richardson will board the inaugural flight to Chihuahua City and attend a ceremony to celebrate the event in Chihuahua. He will return to New Mexico later this evening. Richardson is chairman of the New Mexico-Chihuahua Commission.
