POSTED: 3:22 pm EDT September 23, 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One person is dead after a small plane that originated at Craig Airport in Jacksonville on Monday crashed Tuesday afternoon near Interstate 285 just north of Atlanta.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the Piper Saratoga PA-32 had just taken off from DeKalb Peachtree Airport when it went down in a neighborhood about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Bergen said the plane was en route to Coldwater, Mich.

DeKalb County fire spokesman Capt. Eric Jackson said the plane landed about 20 feet from the front door of a home. Jackson said fire investigators do not believe anyone else was hurt in the crash. Authorities are unsure how many people were aboard the plane.

Officials are unsure what caused the accident, but the plane appeared to clip power lines and trees as it went down.

Bergen said the airplane holds up to six people.

Channel 4 learned that the plane is owned by Women's Medicine Inc. of Jacksonville Beach.
