Further to last week?s wheel well wiring woes, the FAA will be conducting further reinspections for compliance with Airworthiness Directives 2007-151 and 2005-792.
AD 2007-151 concerns angels dancing on the head of a pin. While previously addressed, some pins have anecdotally been supporting a greater number of angels than permitted by the AD. All domestic operators will, over the course of the next 72 hours, visually reinspect all pins and validate the angel count against the angel allocation initially provisioned on their operating certificate. Relocation of angels on overcrowded pins must take place no later than May 1, 2008.
Compliance with AD 2005-792 requires all Part 135 domestic operators to remove the sound of one hand clapping from the interior of their aircraft. FAA audio inspectors with forensic recording devices will be re-deployed to the field to listen for, record, and report all one-hand-claps heard in their respective territories. Noncompliance could result in suspension of the carrier?s operating certificate.
Further, the FAA plans to next start re-inspecting the filters for the coffee machines on 767?s. I, for one, always found those bad boys suspect and will feel much safer once the skies are clear of these. All domestic aircraft using Westinghouse ?JAVA-99? coffee filters are to be grounded during the inspection period. The following week ? crack the whip on ERJs with bad paint jobs.
After that dust settles, check out pilots wearing cheap sunglasses. Personally, I don?t want to fly with less than Ray-Bans. The Foster Grants at some of those little regionals don?t cut it for me, and likely won?t for the rest of the traveling public either.
