*COLUMBUS, Ohio* -- The latest entry into the low-fare airline industry is closing its boarding gates -- for good. Skybus, the "Spirit of Columbus" airline announced Friday evening that it was going out of business effecting 12 a.m. Saturday, *NBC 4*'s Ana Jackson reported. There was no immediate word on what action customers with airline tickets should take. Skybus launched service from its Columbus hub in May 2007, offering some seats for as little as $10 each way, plus taxes and fees. The airline announced on March 24 that its chief executive, Bill Diffenderffer, resigned to return to a career as an author. The company has endured some bumps since it began flying. Skybus reported a loss of $16 million during its first three months of operation. Over two days during Christmas week, Skybus canceled up to a quarter of its flights because of problems with two of its planes. Recently, it has been dropping flights and destinations because of high fuel costs. http://www.dispatch.com/live/content/business/stories/2008/04/04/skybust.html <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> If you wish to unsubscribe from the AIRLINE List, please send an E-mail to: "listserv@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx".
