NWA Exits Bankruptcy Northwest Airlines Corporation officially emerged from bankruptcy on May 31, having cut its debt by $4.2 billion. The airline reduced the cost of its fleet by $400 million per year, dropped unprofitable routes and cut labor costs by $1.4 billion per year.
