Airbus admits it: A380 to miss another deadline=20
After a week of speculation, it=E2=80=99s official: Airbus=E2=80=99 A380 su=
perjumbo jet will face another production delay, company officials confirme=
d today. CNN Money/Dow Jones reports that Airbus' parent company "on Thursd=
ay disclosed that its A380 super-jumbo program would be further delayed bec=
ause of continuing wiring issues."=20
How long? Dow Jones writes that Airbus officials say "it's too early to gau=
ge the financial impact of the latest setbacks or to set a new delivery sch=
edule for the aircraft." And even the announcement of the latest delay appa=
rently didn't go off as planned. Reuters writes that "there was initial con=
fusion over the announcement because (Airbus parent company) EADS erroneous=
ly re-issued the June profit warning at the same time as sending news agenc=
ies the bona fide new release" about the A380 schedule adjustment.=20
Though none of the A380=E2=80=99s initial customers were quoted in either t=
he Reuters or the CNN Money story, several airlines affected by the delays =
have already voiced their displeasure with the Airbus schedule gaffes. And =
Singapore Airlines -=E2=80=93 a top early customer for the A380 -=E2=80=93 =
has apparently changed one of its promotion tag lines from "First to fly th=
e A380 in 2006" to simply "First to fly the A380."
