I *fully* agree with Bahadir. Just to add few words on the story: Emirates aircrafts are also full of happy europeans connecting to Far East destinations, India, Australia and New Zealand. Just drop from the plane, drink a pair of Kilkennys, relax, and the connecting aircraft is ready. So, not just locals, middle-east people and tourists to Dubai. Maybe the flight will be one-stop (e.g., going to Singapore entitles you to an extra stop in Colombo; going to Kuala Lumpur will force you to stop in Dhaka, etc.) and you will loose a precious hour of your life, but: prices are reasonable for a non-business traveller (slashed when compared to some funky tariffs from TG/MA/SG/etc.), leg-space is not that bad and you get entertainment on every flight in economy class (my experience has been to roll my fingers for a while on LH flights, same direction). In the end, didn't they recently define theirself a long-range "low-fares" airline ? Didn't they reject any chance to enter an alliance ? Their business is global and it need to be driven somewhere.
