Air Europa: First A350 Customer

Spanish carrier, Air Europa has become the first airline to order Airbus' brand new aircraft, the A350 series. The new aircraft will be used on long-haul flights. The airline has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for ten aircraft including two options.Air Europa, which currently operates a fleet made up exclusively of Boeing aircraft will soon have its widebody fleet exclusively made up of Airbus aircraft. The Boeing 767s which are currently being operated will be phased out.

The Spanish airline will lease an Airbus A340-200 aircraft in 2005, and will lease two new Airbus A330-200 aircraft in 2006. The new A350-800 aircraft will be delivered between 2010 and 2012.

Airbus has only been offering its new A350 family since December 10, it will replace the A330 aircraft and compete against Boeing's 7E7 fleet. The A350 will consume 12% less fuel compared to the A330 family.
