This makes too much sense to do. But you will never see it at the NYC airports, the PANYNJ makes to much money making people go to the pay lots.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - There's a new place to wait when you're picking up passengers at L-A-X.

Airport officials say they hope the so-called "cell phone waiting lot" will reduce congestion on the main terminal ring road.

The free, 24-hour lot is a five-minute drive from the main terminals.

It's designed to give drivers a place to kill time while waiting for passengers to arrive, without clogging roadways around the airport.

Arriving passengers can call up their rides by cell phone to let them know they have landed.

The 79-space lot is the first of three scheduled to open by summer.

Nearly three (m) million travelers are expected to pass through the airport during the holiday season.
