I am sure TSA would like that, but no US citizens will have to keep a copy of proof of citizenship for 5 years. Another moronic idea when it comes to flight training because according to FAA rules a flight instructor or a facility is obligated to keep the records for two years. So, this rule doesn't make sense from another perspective: You will have copies of passports for 3 years with not flight training record associated with them.. Another proof that TSA wrote this rule with no understanding of flight training environment. The way they came up with it, is even more stupid. They wrote this law without consulting anyone, even FAA and then overnight it appeared on their legislation with 2-3 weeks of mandatory compliance. Schools like University of North Dakota, ERAU got caught with their pants down, with thousands and thousands of students. We will continue to ask questions and more as we work with the TSA, FAA and the administration to clarify and modify the existing rule. This rule was thrust upon us all with no warning what so ever. To list all of the areas in which it makes no sense would waste time for us both. Many thanks for your continued loyalty to AOPA. Our members are our greatest strength!
