Regarding the suitability of Yusuf Islam being on a denial-of-entry list for the U.S., please remember that he made death threats against Salman Rushdie at the time of the Iranian-based fatwa regarding Rushdie and his writing. Some of us have long memories about that sort of thing. That does not mean that I necessarily support the denial of entry status, but it is not entirely irrational. That said, I don't believe that he is any sort of security threat to airline travel. Clearly, however, the security and vetting process should not have permitted him to board a flight if he would be ineligible to enter the country at the destination of the flight. (That sort of thing is routinely checked; a colleague was denied boarding a MSP-CDG flight because he did not have a visa for France. He lucked out since it was actually flying MSP-LHR-CDG, he did not need a visa for the UK, and they let him board and he was told he must leave the plane at LHR, which he did, got a quick visa from French authorities there, and got on the next available flight to CDG.) -- Michael C.
