Many online sites require that the person whose name appears on the credit card be one of the travelers, but this is often not a problem over the phone by calling the airline directly. Using a MasterCard debit card also should not be a problem. Usually the biggest problem is the daily limit many banks place on the amount you can use per day with a credit card, but that shouldn't be an issue for a Los Angeles-Sacramento ticket. The only recent time I can think of being required to show the credit card that I used to purchase the ticket was when I purchased the ticket online at United's web site; I was asked for the credit card when I checked in. I would suggest that your mother call Southwest or United to make the reservation, alternatively you could call and place it on hold, then have her call and give the card number. Or she should be able to go to a local travel agency and they can book it for her. Hotel reservations usually do not require a credit card. Booking online they do, but over the phone often they do not, unless you will be arriving after their hold cutoff time, often 4pm. -- David Mueller / MRY dmueller@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.quanterium.com
