US Airways To Cut Pittsburgh Flight Schedule = = = = Tuesday July 20, 5:33 PM EDT = PITTSBURGH (AP)--US Airways (UAIR) plans to offer fewer flights to fewer = destinations from Pittsburgh International Airport this fall, the airline= said Tuesday after meeting with area officials. The airline's proposed schedule - which is still dependent on delivery of= new regional jets and other factors - means US Airways could operate abo= ut 240 departures to 65 destinations. That is a decrease from about 370 f= lights now to 102 destinations. "For the October-through-January period, Pittsburgh will still operate mo= re or less like a traditional airline hub, but with less flying and fewer= destinations," Christopher L. Chiames, US Airways senior vice president = of corporate affairs, said in a statement. Airline officials said a reduction of service from August through October= will be due to reductions or eliminations in flights of affiliate airlin= es. A detailed schedule for the fall won't be available until August, the= company said. = Earlier this year, Arlington, Va.-based US Airways announced it was modif= ying its hub-and-spoke network to a point-to-point network. Under the new= plan, Pittsburgh would be a "focus city" with fewer flights but US Airwa= ys would remain the airport's largest carrier. Pittsburgh is US Airways' third-largest hub. Philadelphia would remain th= e carrier's hub for trans-Atlantic flights, and Charlotte, N.C., would re= main a hub for the company's profitable routes to the Caribbean. Shares of US Airways Group Inc. rose 15 cents to close at $2.45 Tuesday o= n the Nasdaq Stock Market. = Dow Jones Newswires 07-20-04 1733ET = =A9 2004 Dow Jones & Company, Inc.
