(AP) -- United Airlines still intends to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy this summer despite asking a judge to extend its bankruptcy financing by six months, a spokeswoman said Friday. United said in a May 7 bankruptcy-court filing that it has agreed with i= ts creditors to extend its debtor-in-possession financing from June 30 to Dec. 31. It will pay an additional $1.25 million for the associated financial changes, which require the court's approval. But Jean Medina, a spokeswoman for the nation's No. 2 airline, said the filing doesn't alter United's plan to exit Chapter 11 sometime this summer. United hopes to achieve an operating profit for the second and third quarters but still has some issues to resolve after 17 months in bankruptcy, most notably its request for a $1.6 billion federal loan guarantee. Soaring jet fuel costs also have added hundreds of millions of dollars to its annual operating costs just since the start of the year.
