Airport Security Airlines to test new security measures Associated Press Tuesday, May 4, 2004 (Washington-AP) The government is trying to make it harder for terrorists to masquerade as airline employees. A pilot program to be tested at eight airports will use video surveillance and other technology to identify airline employees by fingerprints or eye scan matches. The acting administrator of the Transportation Security Administration says the technology being used is "cutting edge." David Stone says it should enhance aviation security and keep the system "one step ahead of those who seek to harm us." Airports participating in the program are in Miami, Fort Myers and Tampa in Florida; Newark, New Jersey; Boise, Idaho; Minneapolis-St. Paul; Savannah, Georgia; and Providence, Rhode Island. Homeland Security officials have warned that would-be terrorists might try to steal uniforms and ID cards from airline and airport workers as part of hijacking attempts. Roger EWROPS
