Rather than call it a fuel surcharge, call it what it is - an increase in the fare! It is also a very regressive fee. The person buying the $100 fare has a surcharge of 10 or 15 percent (depending on if it is a $10 or $15 surcharge) while the person buying a $200 ticket has a surcharge of either 5 or 7.5%, etc. David ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roger & Amanda La France" <lafrance@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <AIRLINE@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, March 26, 2004 18:18 Subject: [AIRLINE] Northwest matches $5 fare hike by Continental Northwest matches $5 fare hike by Continental Reuters <http://money.excite.com/img/logo_reuters.gif> Friday March 26, 8:21 PM EST NEW YORK, March 26 (Reuters) - Northwest Airlines (NWAC <http://money.excite.com/jsp/qt/full.jsp?time=0&symbol_search_text=NWAC> )on Friday said it matched a $5 each way price increase on selected flights that was announced earlier on Friday by Continental Airlines (CAL <http://money.excite.com/jsp/qt/full.jsp?time=0&symbol_search_text=CAL> ) to combat rising fuel costs.
