The $159 is the walk up fare, not the discounted-with-a-1000-restrictions fare. Between MSY and PHL Southwest offers a fare of $241.60, which includes all of the extortions (PFC, Security Fee, etc). The difference is due to the charges imposed by the government, not the airline. Don't forget - you can't go all places nonstop from any given place on any given airline. Southwest has also capped their walk-up fare at $299.
