LONDON, Jan 31 (Reuters) - British Airways said on Saturday it had
cancelled three flights from London to the United States on the advice
of the government for security reasons.
In the latest cancellations during a jittery period for the global
airline industry since before Christmas, a British Airways spokeswoman
said it had called off flight BA223 to Washington on Sunday and Monday.=20
Sunday's BA 207 flight to Miami was also cancelled.
"We cancelled these flights on advice from the UK government for
security reasons," she said, without giving details.
Intelligence information raising fears of a new September 11-style
attack led to the cancellation of several international BA flights last
month at the request of the U.S. authorities.
Those cancelled flights included BA 223 to Washington as well as a BA
flight from London to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
The British government warned at the time travellers faced years of
severe security alerts amid fears by Western intelligence services of
plots by al Qaeda and other extremist groups.=20
