"Our niche is primarily serving secondary markets," Mark Peterson, vice president for marketing and sales for Las Vegas-based Allegiant, said Tuesday. Peterson denied the schedule changes were in response to plans by United Airlines' new low-fare airline, Ted, to start nonstop service in February from McCarran International Airport to Denver. Allegiant will stop serving Denver on Jan. 6, while added service to Des Moines and Fort Collins will begin Feb. 11, the airline said in a statement. Additional flights to Colorado Springs begin Feb. 12. Customers holding reservations for Las Vegas-Denver flights will be offered flights to Colorado Springs or Fort Collins/Loveland, or refunds. The company's Apple Vacations charter service from Denver will not be affected. Peterson said that in addition to serving secondary markets, the airline aims to provide low-fare peak daily flights to and from Las Vegas while continuing vacation package programs.
