David, this is also America where I have no choice because of corporate travel agencies. :P It's either Air Canada or UAL. I am happy with UAL service but ACA "sucks" in one word. I have flown with other UA express airlines, USP (RIP) and Skywest comes to mind. If you are flying United, and you are traveling to YUL from any UA hub (ORD or IAD) then you are stuck with ACA. Air Canada doesn't give me enough options in terms of number of flights and UAL's perks (100% bonus miles, free upgrades, etc.) tips the scale..
