China Southern Airlines says subsidiary will buy five 737s from Boeing

   (11-26) 20:24 PST HONG KONG (AP) --
China Southern Airlines Co. said Thursday its 60 percent-owned subsidiary
Xiamen Airlines has agreed to buy five 737 aircraft from Boeing Co.
Precise terms of the deal were not disclosed.
China Southern, based in the mainland city of Guangzhou, said Xiamen
Airlines will pay no more than $55 million for each of the five 737-700s
to be delivered by 2005.
The market price for a 737 plane is between $47 million and $55 million,
according to Boeing's 2002 aircraft price list. However, airlines nearly
always negotiate discounts on list prices.
Shares of Chicago-based Boeing rose 2 cents Wednesday to close at $38.28
each on the New York Stock Exchange.
