Great news for Rag Man (along with HP pilots looking for a new contract) as America West checks in this morning with Q3 net income of $32.9m. This is the second positive quarter for the Phoenix based carrier as Cactus reports a load fact of almost 80% for the three month period. Unrestricted cash on hand totals a whopping $471m. Wall Street is buying up AWA with the stock opening around $12.50 a share. All of this positive news will no doubt cause HP jet jockeys to hold out for a better deal in contract negotiations. Meanwhile the company has indicated that advanced bookings for their new transcon non-stop service are strong and Cactus is looking at several other point to point routes. Kudos to Doug Parker and the AmWest family - being able to make money and successfully compete head to head with Southwest is quite an accomplishment! RT Simpson Phoenix
