Subject: [infotec-travel] jetBlue PNR's used for CAPPS-II tests

According to a February 2003 presentation, CAPPS-II contractor "Torch Concepts" of Hunsville, AL, <<http://www.torchconcepts.com/>>,
has had access to jetBlue Airways reservation data on real passengers since September 2002. The presentation is a fascinating report on the
delays in getting access to the data, starting in early 2002; the problems of "data quality" and suitability of reservation data; and how the TSA
moved from analysis of PNR's to requiring "identifier" data not previously found in PNR's:

(I suggest you grab a copy of this document quickly -- I have a feeling it won't remain available in this location for very long.)

Not surprisingly, there's *no* mention of privacy concerns in the presentation. There's no indication that reservations subject to the EU data directive were filtered out before jetBlue gave their passenger data to Torch Concepts, or that any notice was given or consent obtained. Any European passenger who's ever flown jetBlue would appear to have a cause for complaint to their national Data Protection commission. For further background and links, including the status of prgress toward
enforcement action in the EU against airlines and CRS's for providing PNR data to the USA government without notice or consent, see:
