From http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/news/wabc_090203_jfkplane.html (New York-WABC, September 2, 2003) =AD A loaded passenger jet came grinding= =20 to a halt on its nose at Kennedy Aiport today, after its front landing gear= =20 locked up. American Airlines flight 1048, an MD-80 carrying 128 passengers and a crew= =20 of five, had been on approach to Newark airport when the pilot found that=20 the nose landing gear had not fully deployed. Faced with setting the plane down with its nose flat on the tarmac, the=20 captain opted to switch their landing site from Newark to JFK for that=20 airport's longer runways. The plane's touchdown was reportedly as smooth as possible under the=20 circumstances, and after the nose set down the plane was brought to a halt= =20 still under control. The plane and runway were then sprayed with=20 fire-retardant foam as a safety precaution. Passengers interviewed by Eyewitness News said they were not in fear for=20 their life, and reportedly left the plane through the normal exits.=20
