Ok, I looked it up on the Census and Iran Air's AB6's are CF6 powered. With the trade restrictions, one would assume that they could not have the GE power. On closer inspection, however, Iran and Libya (which have the same restrictions) cannot have over 40 million dollars per year in US investement (hence the Conoco deal going to SNECMA, even though Iran was willing to take less from Conoco). Depending on how much those engines cost, there should not have been much of a problem getting a few planes a year with US engines. Also, it might be a good will gesture considering the fact that the USS Vincences screwed up bad and killed 290 while knocking an AB4 of EP out of the air in 1988, without warning or asking who they were using the correct channels
